The preview for Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution was on ABC last night and I am hooked. The series debuts on Friday at 8 EST and my loving husband, who knows me all too well, has got the DVR set.

The premise of the show is Jamie Oliver going to Huntington, West Virginia to try and change the way school lunches are served and families feed their kids. It’s a back to fresh ingredients and simple recipes instead of serving out of the box reheat and eat convenience food revolution. I think I’m hooked because I agree with Jamie that as Americans, we have completely lost the idea of balanced, home-cooked family meals, and have instead settled for “fast” food that doesn’t really taste good and isn’t at all good for you.

Plus, I just love hearing Jamie Oliver’s quirky English accent and slang.

My 5 year old has proclaimed this his favorite dinner and since as moms we could always use some family-friendly recipe suggestions, I’m passing this one on. I’ve made it once with the escarole (which I alone ate) and once with baked potatoes. The budding gourmet likes it best alongside potatoes so he can dip the potatoes in the chicken sauce and gobble it all up.

One more helpful hint: I found boneless chicken breasts with skin as called for in this recipe at Brennan’s. You may have to go to a “nicer” meat department, too. Or, be willing to debone the chicken breasts yourself.
