Three sticks of butter and lots of sugar.
Morning buns are my favorite breakfast pastry. I found this recipe months ago (I can’t remember now which blog led me to it) and had been meaning to try it, never getting around to it. I think subconsciously I was intimidated by the length of the recipe and the process. But encouraged by a recent viewing of Julie & Julia to “stick to the courage of my convictions” I took the plunge yesterday afternoon, pounding out butter and rolling pastry dough on the hour for four hours. And, it helped that I couldn’t sleep last night and spent the hour between 3 and 4 am finishing these and then let them sit for their final rise while I went back to sleep.
Oh, but it was all worth it. So, so worth it.
If you’re game, you’ll need this recipe for the croissant dough.

Those look so wonderful, they are making my mouth water.
