Why do moms flock to McDonald’s like moths to a flame? It is a unique phenomenon, how one restaurant can attract moms and kids from every walk of life. It must be the french fries.
My last visit to McDonald’s, I saw someone I knew long ago and instead of playing the high school reunion game of comparing what each of us has done in the last 15 years, and feeling nothing but self-conscious and insecure, I just thought to myself, I’m happy where I am right now. I don’t care if other women think what I’ve done is let my brain turn to mush, my resume grow stale or my wardrobe give way to jeans and flip flops. That’s not how I feel about my life. It felt so freeing not to get on the gerbil wheel the world wants you on…always comparing yourself to others and feeling inadequate.
So, I guess I would encourage you to stop yourself from getting on the wheel this week, whatever that looks like in your life. Thinking that you aren’t as pretty as the neighbor, don’t have the right clothes, need to have a bigger house, whatever. You are where you are for a reason. Be there. And enjoy some french fries, too.
